Contrary to the claims made in a viral video, no staff members of the Nigerian Red Cross were beheaded by Boko Haram insurgents in Ngoshe, Gwoza local government area, Borno State.
According to a source from the organization, the video gave a misleading impression, but none of their personnel were harmed. The source clarified that Boko Haram militants often refer to various groups, including the military or other organizations, as the “Red Cross.”
The Nigerian Red Cross has chosen not to escalate the issue by releasing an official statement.
