The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has provided reasons for the cancellation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Nigeria and Libya, which was originally scheduled for 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15.

In a statement released by CAF, it was revealed that the match will not take place as planned, and the matter will be referred to “competent CAF bodies” for further action.

The decision comes after the Super Eagles of Nigeria faced a 14-hour ordeal in Libya, where their flight was unexpectedly diverted from Benghazi to Al-Abraq by Libyan authorities. The unexpected rerouting of the plane raised safety concerns due to fuel limitations, as explained by the flight’s pilot.

CAF has yet to provide further details, leaving the fate of the match and the case between the two teams in the hands of its disciplinary bodies.
