A Swedish prosecutor confirmed on Tuesday that an investigation into an alleged rape had been opened, following media reports linking the case to French football star Kylian Mbappé. However, the prosecutor’s office did not specifically name the Real Madrid player as a suspect.

According to Swedish media outlets Aftonbladet, Expressen, and public broadcaster SVT, the alleged incident occurred during Mbappé’s recent two-day visit to Stockholm. These reports claim that the investigation targets the 25-year-old footballer, who visited the Nordic capital last week.

In a statement, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said:
“In response to media reports about a suspected rape in Stockholm, the prosecutor can confirm that a criminal report has been submitted to the police.” However, the statement did not identify the suspect and declined to provide further details at this time.

The incident allegedly took place on October 10 at the Bank Hotel, a luxury establishment in central Stockholm. While media reports have suggested Mbappé is “reasonably suspected” of rape and sexual assault, the prosecutor clarified that no formal charges have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

The footballer’s entourage, when contacted by AFP, stated that they were unaware of any legal complaint against him.

Mbappé, who was not called up for France’s recent Nations League matches, was reported to have dined with a group and visited a nightclub during his stay in Stockholm. The group left Sweden on Friday, a day after the alleged incident.
