Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced plans to construct the Ikotun Flyover as part of efforts to alleviate traffic gridlock in the area. The governor made this announcement during the Two-Day Lagos State Physical Planning Summit, organized by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, held at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos. The summit was themed “Rethinking Lagos: A New Vision for a Regional and Integrated Megacity.”

The guest speaker at the summit, former Governor and immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, emphasized the need for collective action in his address titled “Reminder,” which served to underscore the tasks necessary for developing a regional and integrated megacity.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the ease of doing business in Lagos. He stated, “We can’t be complacent with our mega city status. We have to think out of the box and challenge ourselves on what the citizens want.”

He highlighted several successful projects, including the Agege-Pen Cinema flyover, as part of the Agege/Ifako-Ijaiye Model City Plan, and the Ajah and Abule-Egba flyovers included in the Ajah-Lekki Infrastructure Master Plan and the Alimosho Model City Plan, respectively. The Ikotun flyover, along with the Opebi/Odo-Iyalaro bypass and road expansions in Ikorodu, will soon be underway.

The governor also mentioned recent improvements, such as the junction enhancement at Opebi and the regional road at Lekki, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to infrastructural development. Furthermore, he referenced the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the new airport in Lekki, which are outcomes of the Operative Development Plans.

Addressing environmental challenges, Sanwo-Olu spoke about the Lagos Resilience Strategy, which aims to mitigate the impacts of climate change, flooding, and other environmental risks, demonstrating the administration’s dedication to safeguarding the city for future generations.
