THOMAS TUCHEL IN TALKS TO BECOME ENGLAND’S NEXT MANAGER

Reports on Tuesday indicate that Thomas Tuchel is in discussions with the Football Association (FA) about potentially becoming England’s next manager. This development comes amid speculation regarding Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, who has been questioned about his interest in the role as he approaches the end of his contract this season.

Tuchel, 51, previously led Chelsea to Champions League success in 2021 before being dismissed the following year. Since Gareth Southgate stepped down after England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final in July, Tuchel has emerged as a frontrunner for the position.

According to Sky Sports, the German coach, who departed Bayern Munich at the end of last season, is currently in a strong position to succeed Southgate. The FA, however, has not commented on these reports.

Lee Carsley, who was appointed as Southgate’s temporary successor in August for the Nations League campaign, has had a mixed start, securing three wins and one defeat. His chances of landing the role permanently have been impacted by a recent 2-1 defeat at home to Greece, especially after fielding an experimental squad. Carsley has expressed that the best candidate for the job should be selected, regardless of their nationality.

Historically, England has been managed by foreign coaches twice, with Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello at the helm. The search for a permanent manager continues as the FA evaluates its options.
