Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation magazine and a key member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that whether Atiku Abubakar becomes Nigeria’s president in 2027 will be determined by God and destiny. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Momodu addressed criticisms of Abubakar’s continued political ambitions, notably from former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who recently urged the 77-year-old to step aside due to his age.

Abubakar, who will be 81 by the next election, has run for the presidency six times, leading to speculation that he may seek the PDP ticket once again in 2027. In response to Fayose’s remarks, Momodu emphasized that no one can dictate Abubakar’s political future and questioned the apparent fear critics have of him.

Momodu dismissed concerns about age, citing examples of older leaders like U.S. President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, and argued that leadership should be evaluated based on performance rather than age. He defended Abubakar’s right to run if he chooses and highlighted that a strong political coalition could make him a formidable contender in the 2027 election.

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and long-time politician, has been a key figure in Nigeria’s political arena for decades, consistently seeking the presidency and remaining a significant force in the PDP despite not yet securing the nation’s top office.
