The PWAN Group, one of Nigeria’s foremost real estate conglomerates, has restructured its leadership to enhance operational efficiency and ensure sustainable growth. In a landmark shift, Dr. Michael Afamefuna Okonkwo, former Managing Director of PWAN Legend, has been appointed Group Chairman, succeeding Co-Founder Dr. Augustine Onwumere. However, Dr. Onwumere will maintain his role as co-founder and guiding figure for the organization. Dr. Frederick Okpaje of PWAN Haven has been named Group Vice Chairman.
Other notable appointments include Dr. Vera Oberabor as Group Executive Director of Corporate Communications, Dr. Julius Olaniyi Oyedemi as Group Executive Director of Sales & Marketing, Dr. Mike Akhuetie as Group Executive Director of Recruitment, and Dr. Anthonia Abayomi as Group Executive Director of Finance.
The restructuring process will be overseen by Group Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Jayne Onwumere, who emphasized the need for the changes to address internal challenges and position PWAN for continued success. “We’ve grown to over 60 affiliate companies, and by next year, we expect to have over 150 Managing Directors. To ensure sustainable success, we must adapt,” Dr. Onwumere said, expressing confidence in the new leadership team.
Dr. Okonkwo, the new Group Chairman, reiterated the commitment to addressing lingering issues, particularly land allocation, and urged affiliate companies to expand beyond land sales to include construction. He announced that from next fiscal year, PWAN will focus on delivering high-quality buildings alongside land sales, marking a new phase for the group.
PWAN Group’s new leadership has also developed a comprehensive five-year plan aimed at tackling operational challenges, enhancing customer satisfaction, and solidifying its leadership in Nigeria’s real estate sector. The restructuring was unveiled during the Directors’ Retreat in Asaba, where Dr. Augustine Onwumere expressed optimism about the future, confident that the new team would lead PWAN Group into a stronger, more structured era.
