Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Nigerian leaders to effectively manage the nation’s abundant resources for sustainable development. Speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Methodist Archdiocese of Abuja, Obasanjo stressed that Nigeria is richly endowed with assets such as the Rivers Niger and Benue, crude oil, and fertile land, but poor management has hindered progress.
During the event, Obasanjo echoed the message of Methodist Prelate Dr. Oliver Aba, highlighting the importance of recognizing God’s provisions. He emphasized that Nigeria, like other resource-rich nations, has been blessed with everything necessary for growth and prosperity. “Nigeria was not created to struggle,” he said, urging leaders to utilize the country’s blessings wisely.
Obasanjo also called for prayers for national healing, acknowledging that Nigeria’s challenges are not due to a lack of resources but to mismanagement. He expressed hope that with humility and divine guidance, the nation could overcome its struggles.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, commended the Methodist Church’s contributions to education, social justice, and national unity. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and faith-based organizations to address Nigeria’s issues. Tinubu praised the Church’s role in empowering the youth and fostering dialogue among diverse communities, urging it to continue providing moral leadership.
Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, the Methodist Prelate, encouraged Nigerians to remain united in the face of challenges, noting that the country’s large population and significant global position require collective effort for progress.
