Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) has urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians caused by the increasing costs of food and energy. He raised his concerns in a statement made in Abuja on Friday, highlighting the urgent need for government intervention.

Ndume expressed alarm over what he described as “fifth columnists” collaborating with saboteurs to undermine the Tinubu administration’s efforts to build a better future for Nigerians. He pointed out that the dramatic rise in fuel prices, food, and essential goods is making life increasingly unbearable for ordinary citizens, especially the poor and vulnerable.

The senator stated, “Bad elements are trying hard to pitch the people against the administration of President Tinubu by pushing for harsh reforms and bad policies instead of controlling inflation and exchange rates that are making life unbearable for Nigerians.”

He lamented the actions of those intent on tarnishing the President’s image by inflicting pain on the populace through what he termed “so-called reforms.” He noted that many families are struggling to meet their daily needs due to hyperinflation driven by relentless increases in essential goods and services.

Ndume asserted, “I believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu means well for Nigeria and Nigerians. But some of his advisers who don’t mean well for the people are giving him the wrong advice.” He urged the President to reject the counsel of these “bad people” who are causing hardship and sowing discord among the citizens.

Describing the dire situation in Borno State, Ndume stated, “Many families can’t even feed anymore. The untold hardship of these frequent increases in prices is unimaginable. Farmers cannot move their products because of high transportation costs, leading to skyrocketing food prices.” He emphasized that the burden of travel costs has made it difficult for people to afford basic transportation, further exacerbating the crisis.

The senator concluded with a plea for immediate action, warning, “It is not good to test the patience of Nigerians, and that’s exactly what these bad advisers are doing.” He called on President Tinubu to intervene before the situation worsens, stressing the need for a comprehensive approach to mitigate the ongoing hardships faced by the people.
