RIVERS STATE POLICE LAUNCH CONFIDENCE-BUILDING PATROLS AMID POST-ELECTION VIOLENCE

< 1 mn read

The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a series of confidence-building patrols across local government areas in response to the recent violence following local government council elections. Led by Commissioner of Police Bala Mustapha, the patrols began at the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (LGA) secretariat and continued to the Obio/Akpor LGA secretariat.

This move follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive to restore peace and uphold law and order in Rivers State, after reports of arson and explosions at several local government secretariats. President Tinubu expressed concern over the unrest and called for restraint from political leaders and supporters, emphasizing that political disputes should be resolved through the judiciary rather than violence.

The police patrols aim to reassure the public, prevent further violence, and stabilize the region in the aftermath of the elections.
