Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released on bail after spending five days in police custody. His arrest, which took place in Lagos last Friday, led to his transfer to Abuja, where he was detained.

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed that Darlington’s detention stemmed from a formal complaint filed by Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy. The complaint accused Darlington of defamation and cyberstalking, prompting the police action that resulted in his detention.

Darlington was released to his lawyer on Tuesday evening after fulfilling the bail conditions set by the police in Abuja. In a post on X, Adeyanju expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the singer’s release and commended the professionalism of the police in the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) department.

In a viral video, Darlington challenged Burna Boy to clarify how he won the Grammy for his album Twice As Tall, mockingly referencing Burna Boy’s connection to the controversial US rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently facing serious allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

Additionally, a video surfaced of Darlington’s mother pleading with Burna Boy to “tamper justice with mercy” and release her only son.
