The Social Media Awards (SMA) 2024 has officially launched, highlighting the event’s mission to celebrate excellence in the digital sphere and recognize outstanding contributions that have shaped social media.

During the launch, convener Mr. Emmanuel Nwafor announced this year’s theme, “The Spotlight,” which underscores the significance of acknowledging individuals and brands that have made substantial impacts through innovative storytelling, creativity, and authenticity.

Joined by notable Nigerian figures, including veteran Nollywood actor Tony Umenz and Big Brother Naija Season 4 star Natacha Akide (popularly known as Tacha), Nwafor expressed confidence that the 2024 edition would surpass the success of previous years. He stated, “This year’s SMA is about illuminating excellence, amplifying marginalized voices, and honoring authenticity and creativity.”

To enhance inclusivity, the 2024 SMA introduces new award categories, including Viral Slang Maker of the Year, Animated Skit Maker of the Year, and Best Health Influencer. Nwafor emphasized that these additions aim to recognize areas of social media creativity that have previously been overlooked.

This year’s nomination and voting process will be entirely user-driven, ensuring transparency and fairness. “The public will have complete control over nominating and voting for their favorite influencers, content creators, and brands. The 2024 SMA will feature a wide range of categories, covering campaigns, individuals, video content, and brand initiatives,” he said.
