Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has extended forgiveness to his political opponents, whom he accused of attempting to undermine his character during a leadership feud within the party. This announcement follows a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that upheld the legitimacy of the party’s National Convention held on March 27, 2024, in Nnewi, Anambra State, where Abure was re-elected for a second term.

In an official statement titled “A New Dawn for Labour Party: Victory, Forgiveness and Unity,” Abure expressed gratitude to the justices involved for their commitment to justice despite external pressures. He specifically called on Peter Obi, referred to as the former LP Presidential Candidate, to aid in uniting the party.

Abure stated, “Now that the court has spoken, I offer my forgiveness to those who attempted to undermine our party and engaged in character assassination, especially of my person. However, in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ, I say, ‘I forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.’”

He emphasized that forgiveness should be accompanied by repentance and restitution, urging those involved to reflect on their actions and reconcile with the party. “In doing so, they should also consider restitution for the damages they have caused us. Only then can we truly move forward, heal our party, and work for the common good of Nigeria,” he added.

Abure expressed immense gratitude for the court’s decision, stating, “This victory is not just mine, but a victory for justice and democracy. It confirms that the rule of law prevails and that our party’s leadership remains legitimate. For this, I must first and foremost thank Almighty God for guiding us through this challenging period.”
