Nigerian rapper Reminisce has shared valuable insights into navigating relationships in the music industry, emphasizing the importance of establishing boundaries and recognizing that not everyone around him is a friend. In a recent interview with Naija FM, he reflected on his experiences with fame and the tough lessons he learned along the way.

“Fame is a drug that gets one high and clouds judgment,” Reminisce explained. He revealed that one of his earliest realizations was the harsh truth that “nobody is my friend.” This understanding has shaped how he approaches his career and the people he allows into his life.

Reminisce acknowledged that his stance might not be popular among everyone. He noted, “That’s probably why many people don’t like me. If someone has worked with me and we had issues, it would probably be because I made my decision and stood by it. At the end of the day, na me go suffer the consequences.” His emphasis on the need for boundaries highlights the importance of self-protection in a competitive industry.

The rapper recounted how his early career experiences revealed to him that he had no real friends within the industry. As he achieved more success, he became increasingly cautious about whom he trusted. “When it comes to humans, they turn you into an enemy if they aren’t favored, especially monetarily,” he said. “It took a while before I became famous, and I even had a child beforehand. The first thing I got to understand is that nobody is your friend. You can be kind and assist, but the first mistake you can make in this music industry is thinking everyone is your friend. Nobody is your friend.”

Reminisce’s advice to aspiring artists is to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. “We all want the same thing, so there is no way you’d think everyone is your friend,” he cautioned. “It is very normal to have people around you when you’re hot and popping, and it is your responsibility as a famous person to determine what you want. Not everyone around you wants you to succeed.”

His reflections serve as a reminder for those in the industry to be mindful of relationships and to prioritize their own well-being amidst the pressures of fame.
