The Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of two siblings, Samuel Adedeji Adeboye and Charles Adedamola Adeboye, along with 33 others, for their involvement in internet fraud. The accused individuals were arraigned before Justices Ladiran Akintola, Bayo Taiwo, and O.S. Adeyemi of the Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan.

The defendants faced separate one-count charges related to impersonation, obtaining by false pretenses, retention of proceeds from crime, and possession of fraudulent documents.

One charge against Samuel Adedeji Adeboye stated that he falsely represented himself as “James Jonathan” to a person named Wendy Rose, thereby committing an offence of impersonation, contrary to Section 484 of the Criminal Code Law of Oyo State, 2000.

His brother, Charles Adedamola Adeboye, was charged with aiding an internet fraudster in July 2018 by helping to receive N200,000, proceeds from fraud, which amounted to aiding the commission of a felony.

All defendants pleaded guilty to the charges, leading the prosecution counsel, Modupe Akinkoye and others, to request their conviction and sentencing.

Justice Akintola sentenced the Adeboye brothers to one year imprisonment each, with Samuel given the option to pay a N100,000 fine, while Charles received a N30,000 fine. Other sentences included five months imprisonment or a N150,000 fine for Adisa, four months for Okoh, and five months of community service for Emmanuel without an option of fine.

Additionally, all convicts were ordered to forfeit items recovered from them to the federal government. Among the forfeited items were four Lexus cars, two Toyota Camry cars, a Mercedes Benz, and an Acura car, all proceeds of their fraudulent activities.
