Former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, disclosed that 4,660 people were killed in 2020 and an additional 2,660 civilians lost their lives in 2021 in the Sahel region due to insecurity. He shared this information during the inaugural Annual International Lecture organized by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The lecture, themed “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s Challenges – Genesis, Impacts and Options,” aims to address the ongoing issue of insecurity affecting both the Sahel and Nigeria. The event was part of NAN’s initiative to explore strategies for tackling this pressing challenge.
