Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has stated that while the electorate will ultimately decide, he will play a significant role in selecting his successor when his term ends in 2027. Speaking during the presentation of the Committee report on the Review and Update of Public Service Rules, held in Ibadan, Makinde acknowledged the lobbying for his position but urged patience, stating that such considerations should be closer to the election.

ROLE OF PDP AND PARTY DYNAMICS
Makinde emphasized the importance of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the process, noting that as the current party leader in Oyo State, he will be actively involved in discussions shaping the selection of his successor.

COMMITMENT TO LEAVING A LEGACY
Regarding the Committee’s report on public service reform, Makinde expressed his commitment to modernizing the state’s civil service, moving from manual processes to digital systems to eliminate delays. He noted that many existing Public Service Rules are outdated, and updating them to global standards will enhance the efficiency and working conditions of state employees. The governor praised the committee’s efforts, seeing them as validation of his desire to leave a lasting, transformative legacy in Oyo State.
