The Abia State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the alleged beheading of a couple, Mr. Jacob Udo and Mrs. Comfort Udo, in the Isiala Autonomous Community of Bende Local Government Area. The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night when unidentified assailants entered their apartment, slaughtered them, and dismembered their bodies.

Police Public Relations Officer Maureen Chilaka confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, indicating that the crime scene had been visited and exhibits recovered. The victims’ bodies have been deposited in the mortuary as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, condemned the “horrific and senseless killing.” In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu expressed his disgust over the brutal act, emphasizing that it is unacceptable and violates the fundamental human right to life. He further stated that “no cause or grievance justifies such a brutal and inhumane act.”

The couple, originally from Itumbuzor, an agrarian community in the same Bende LGA, had been residing in Bende town at the time of the incident.
