Hundreds of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members and supporters took to the streets on Wednesday to protest the results of the September 21st governorship election, claiming the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was compromised and failed to announce the “actual” results, which they believe showed PDP’s victory.

The protesters, carrying placards with anti-INEC and President Bola Tinubu messages, gathered near INEC’s office on Aduwawa Road, demanding transparency. The protest was led by prominent PDP figures, including Hon Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, Director General of the Asue/Ogie Governorship Campaign Council, who accused INEC of manipulating the results.

Iduoriyekemwen expressed frustration, saying, “INEC does not exist anymore; APC has destroyed it… we will not accept this.” He emphasized that the people of Edo voted for PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and called out the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for allegedly altering results.

While the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal confirmed that no official petition had been filed yet, PDP members stated they would bring their grievances before the tribunal. State PDP Chairman, Hon Tony Aziegbemi, expressed confidence that evidence would show that Asue Ighodalo won the election, despite a lack of faith in the judiciary.
