The Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) has called on the Federal Government to adopt regionalism as the most effective strategy to unlock Nigeria’s full potential. The organization also urged southwest governors to approve the region’s integrated development plan.

This appeal was made in a communiqué issued by the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland and global convener of the diaspora organization, Iba Gani Adams; Secretary General Prince Olanrewaju Sunmonu; and European Coordinator Gani Wahab, following their recent European Summit in the United Kingdom.

The communiqué stated, “The Southwest Governors must be ready to replicate the region’s past success stories by focusing on the region’s integrated development plan.” It emphasized the need to revive the educational sector and prioritize the security of lives and property in the southwest.

Additionally, the OPU urged governors to address the pressing issue of insecurity affecting the region. They called for reinforced regional security measures and encouraged the Lagos State Government to collaborate with other southwestern states to inaugurate the Amotekun security outfit, aiming to boost the morale of the other five states in the region
