Comrade Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has voiced his disappointment regarding Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day anniversary. He noted that what should have been a celebratory occasion is overshadowed by the country’s pressing issues, including poverty, insurgency, corruption, and poor infrastructure.

In his message delivered in Abuja, Abure described the current state of Nigeria as being under severe attack from politicians who are undermining democracy and exploiting the nation for personal gain. He emphasized the importance of national unity to address these challenges, urging Nigerians to come together against election malpractices, poverty, and corruption.

Abure reiterated the Labour Party’s dedication to promoting free and fair elections and good governance, emphasizing the need for collective action to reclaim the nation. He highlighted the multifaceted struggles facing the country, including the impact of poverty and insurgency in the northeastern region, the poor state of infrastructure obstructing economic growth, and the rising costs of education and transportation, which are making it challenging for ordinary Nigerians to access these necessities. He also pointed out that corruption and impunity are deeply ingrained in the governance system, compromising the integrity of the judiciary and electoral processes.

Abure’s remarks reflect a growing sentiment among many Nigerians who feel that the country has strayed from the ideals of independence, highlighting the need for significant reforms and a renewed commitment to democratic principles.
