The Edo government issued a warning on Monday to reinstated Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, advising him not to violate existing laws following his alleged inspection of the Radisson Hotel site in Government Reserves Area (GRA), Benin. This response comes after a viral video surfaced, showing Shaibu acting as the deputy governor while inspecting the hotel site.

In a statement, Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser on Media Projects to Governor Godwin Obaseki, reminded Shaibu that, although a court has reinstated him, the state government has appealed this decision.

Osagie urged Shaibu not to disrupt governance processes by violating any laws. “Shaibu, like any private citizen, is welcome to tour the exceptional projects of Governor Godwin Obaseki. However, the government cautions both Philip Shaibu and security agencies against actions that contravene the law and the constitution.”

He emphasized that Shaibu should be patient and await the Appeal Court’s decision regarding his case, stressing the importance of respecting the rule of law. The government also encouraged the people of Edo State to continue their lawful activities, assuring them that it would uphold the protection of lives and property in accordance with state laws.
