The Temitope Adeboyejo Foundation (TAF) has officially launched a significant initiative aimed at reducing hypertension rates in Nigeria by 20% over the next five years, particularly among vulnerable populations. This initiative was unveiled on September 22nd at the Lifepoint Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos.

Dr. Afolashade Oluwole, a prominent cardiovascular consultant, delivered a keynote address titled “Taking Control of Your Pressure: A Holistic Approach to Hypertension Prevention and Management.” This speech emphasized proactive health management and shared vital information on preventing and treating hypertension.

The event included a heartfelt tribute to the late Mrs. Temitope Adeboyejo, the foundation’s namesake. A short film, “Suddenly,” was screened, highlighting her life and struggles with hypertension, serving as a poignant reminder of the disease’s impact.

The event featured a performance by renowned artist Evelle, who sang one of the songs written by Mrs. Adeboyejo. Additionally, spoken-word artist Mama Kiki delivered a compelling performance, adding emotional depth to the evening.

Oriyomi Abagun, TAF’s Executive Director, introduced the foundation’s four major interventions: Beat The Pressure (community education on hypertension), Numbers Matter (promoting early detection of hypertension), Heart Smart (supporting healthy lifestyle choices), and TAF Says (advocating for policy changes to address hypertension).

Hypertension is a significant public health crisis in Nigeria, contributing to a high rate of cardiovascular diseases and mortality. Mr. Femi Adeboyejo, the founder of TAF and husband of the late Mrs. Temitope Adeboyejo, highlighted the seriousness of the issue, stating, “Hypertension is a silent killer. We often don’t realize how silent it is until it silences someone close to us.”

TAF aims to create a world free from the devastating effects of hypertension, ensuring that everyone has access to the necessary resources for a healthy life. The foundation is dedicated to implementing scalable programs that focus not only on treating but also preventing hypertension in Nigerian communities.
