CORPS MEMBER RESUSCITATES BOREHOLES IN KATSINA COMMUNITY

2 mn read

Hafsat Abdulhamid, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Katsina State, has successfully revitalized three broken-down boreholes in the Dandagoro community, located in Batagarawa Local Government Area. The boreholes, which had been non-functional for over two years, were essential for the community’s access to potable water.

Background of the Project

The initiative, part of Abdulhamid’s Community Development Service (CDS), arose from the dire water scarcity that residents faced. For the past two years, the breakdown of the boreholes left the community grappling with significant challenges in accessing clean drinking water, forcing many to travel long distances for their daily needs.

Abdulhamid expressed her concern over the situation, noting the severe impact it had on the health of the community, particularly among children who were vulnerable to waterborne diseases due to the lack of clean water.

Community Support and Acknowledgments

During the commissioning of the boreholes on Sunday, Abdulhamid acknowledged the support of the local government Chairman, Alhaji Bala Garba-Tsanni, who promptly backed the project upon receiving her proposal. She encouraged other local leaders to follow his example in supporting community initiatives.

Alhaji Ibrahim Sa’idu, the NYSC Coordinator in Katsina State, commended Abdulhamid for her dedication and ingenuity in addressing the community’s water crisis. He urged stakeholders to continue supporting corps members in executing their community projects, emphasizing that such initiatives are integral to the welfare of the communities they serve.

The village head of Dandagoro, Alhaji Muttaka Magaji, expressed gratitude for the revitalization of the boreholes, stating that the community had endured hardships for too long with no viable solutions. He noted that previous promises from politicians had yielded little to no results, making Abdulhamid’s efforts all the more significant.

Conclusion

The successful resuscitation of the boreholes marks a pivotal moment for the Dandagoro community, providing them with reliable access to potable water and alleviating the hardships they have faced. The project not only addresses immediate water needs but also showcases the potential impact of youth involvement in community development.
