Kola Ologbondiyan, the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserted that no individual or group within the party can deny the North Central Zone the right to select a successor to former National Chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu. He made this statement while meeting with PDP youths from the North Central in Abuja over the weekend.

Ologbondiyan emphasized that the North Central zone is poised to name Ayu’s successor in accordance with Section 47(6) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended). He noted widespread support among party members and stakeholders across various geopolitical zones, particularly in the North East, for a successor from the North Central.

He urged PDP members to disregard the actions of certain individuals who misinterpret the party’s Constitution for personal gain, stating, “The grundnorm for the PDP is the PDP’s Constitution, not the desires of any individual, regardless of their position.”

Ologbondiyan called for adherence to the party’s Constitution to guide members and help restore the party’s former prominence. He concluded by asserting that “the North Central will produce a successor to Senator Ayu, and any attempts to obstruct this process do not align with the best interests of our party.”
