OGUN STATE GOVERNOR HIGHLIGHTS ECONOMIC SAVINGS FROM FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to eliminate fuel subsidies has saved Nigeria N5.4 trillion, which would have been spent by the end of 2024.

During the 64th National Day celebration at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter in Abeokuta, Abiodun noted that this amount would have been detrimental, given the Federal Government’s N6.7 trillion budget for the same fiscal year.

“The Federal Government, under President Tinubu’s leadership, has taken bold initiatives to reposition our economy and prevent bankruptcy,” Abiodun stated.

He urged Nigerians to engage constructively with the government, cautioning that protests could lead to looting and vandalism. Instead, he called for resilience, prayer, and perseverance, asserting that the administration is inclusive.

Abiodun highlighted his government’s initiatives to mitigate current challenges, including:

– CNG BUSES: Introducing compressed natural gas buses to lower transportation costs.

– ENERGY TRANSITION PROGRAMS: Launching e-bikes to encourage alternative transportation.

– REDUCED WORKDAYS: Cutting civil servants’ workdays from five to three.

– FREE MEDICAL SERVICES: Offering healthcare for the poor and elderly.

Furthermore, Abiodun announced the imminent completion of farmers’ markets in the state’s four zones, where food will be available at affordable prices. The Gateway Trading Company will soon operate, providing items at wholesale prices.

The Diocesan Bishop of Ijebu North Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Dr. Akinwande Godwin Odubena, underscored the essential role of leadership in shaping Nigeria’s future. He encouraged citizens to remain hopeful and focus on unity and prosperity, advocating for dialogue over protests and violence while urging leaders to recommit themselves to God and foster constructive engagement
