No fewer than 1,331 members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, Kano State, defected to the ruling New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) on Thursday. The defectors, mainly from 11 wards, expressed their commitment to opposing the return of APC as the ruling party in Kano State.

Prominent among the defectors were former local government vice chairman Malam Kwa and former state House of Assembly aspirant Hon. Audu Tumfafi. Hon. Hashimu Dungurawa, State Chairman of NNPP, welcomed the newcomers and praised their decision, emphasizing the party’s dedication to the socio-economic and infrastructural development of Kano.

He assured the defectors of equal opportunities within the party and dismissed rumors of mass defections from NNPP to APC, asserting that the party’s membership remained strong. Dungurawa also cautioned against individuals exploiting the situation for personal gain. Earlier, Malam Kwa criticized former governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje for failing to develop the area during his tenure.
