In an effort to lower transportation costs for civil servants in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced a reduction in the number of working days for state employees.
A statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday revealed that the Governor has also extended the payment of palliatives to civil servants for an additional two months, pending the implementation of a new minimum wage in the state.
According to the statement, civil servants in grade levels 01-10 will now work three days a week, while those in grade levels 12-17 will work four days a week. However, workers in essential roles—such as medical personnel, security operatives, political office holders, and Accounting Officers—are excluded from this change.
The statement read, “In response to high transportation costs, Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved rescheduled working days for various categories of civil servants and an extension of payment of palliatives for public servants for the next two months.”
This decision, outlined in a circular from the Office of the Head of Service, is part of Governor Adeleke’s commitment to the welfare of workers and addresses the current economic challenges in the country.
The circular specifies the new working arrangements: “Public Servants on GL.01 to GL.10 – Three days a week; Public Servants on GL12 to GL.17 – Four days a week.”
Additionally, it notes that the specific days each public servant will work will be determined by the Accounting Officers in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The Governor’s decision to continue the payment of agreed palliatives for the next two months is aimed at supporting public servants until the new minimum wage is enacted.
