The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured all 260 political ward councillorship seats in the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State during the council elections held on Saturday.

Prof. Christian Ngwu, Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), announced the results on Monday in Enugu, explaining that the delay in the announcement was due to thorough scrutiny of the results.

Earlier, on Sunday, ENSIEC had declared the PDP the winner of all 17 Chairmanship positions in the state. Ngwu, who also served as the returning officer, stated that the commission carefully collated and analyzed the results to ensure compliance with electoral laws.

“PDP won all 260 ward councillorship positions within the 260 political wards in the state. The election was conducted peacefully, fairly, freely, and credibly,” he noted.

Ngwu emphasized that ENSIEC provided a level playing field for all 17 political parties participating in the polls. He mentioned that full details of the councillorship election would be released soon, and Certificates of Return would be issued to the winners of both the chairmanship and councillorship positions.

He added that there were no substantial reports of violence during the elections, stating, “The commission is not aware of any violence or breakdown of law and order during the polls.”
