Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, according to results from 18 local government areas announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Okpebholo secured a total of 291,667 votes, while his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 247,655 votes. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) finished third with 22,763 votes.

With these results, Okpebholo is positioned to be officially declared the winner of the election.

However, the PDP has called on INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to review the results before finalizing the outcome. Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, PDP Chairman in Edo, claimed discrepancies between the results recorded by electoral officers and those uploaded on the INEC IREV system, alleging that votes were inflated in favor of the APC while deducting from the PDP’s count.
