OBASEKI LOSES OREDO LGA TO APC IN EDO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

Governor Godwin Obaseki has lost the Oredo Local Government Area to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the ongoing governorship election. Obaseki, a native of Oredo, supports the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, suspended collation until 5 pm on September 22, 2024, after announcing results from 16 out of 18 local governments. The APC candidate, Monday Okpebholo, received 244,549 votes, while Ighodalo secured 195,954 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party received 13,348 votes.

At the resumption of collation, the results for Oredo LGA showed Okpebholo with 30,780 votes, Ighodalo with 24,938 votes, and Akpata with 5,389 votes.

  • Accredited Voters: 64,802
  • Total Votes Cast: 64,042
