APC CALLS FOR STATE OF EMERGENCY IN ZAMFARA OVER INSECURITY

< 1 mn read

In a statement issued by Yusuf Idris, the Zamfara State APC Publicity Secretary, on Saturday in Gusau, the party urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state due to escalating insecurity. The APC expressed concerns about the Gov. Dauda Lawal administration’s inability to effectively manage the security situation.

Idris commended the ongoing military operations against bandits in the North-West, led by Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, which he described as producing “unprecedented results.” He emphasized that bandit leaders and their gangs have been subdued, urging the Federal Government to sustain the efforts.

However, Idris accused Gov. Lawal of attempting to sabotage the military efforts through media campaigns and propaganda, distracting from the federal operation. He claimed that the governor had not supported the military in terms of logistics and was politicizing the security situation for personal gain.

The statement also highlighted that Gov. Lawal has been in conflict with his predecessor, Matawalle, since taking office in May, accusing him of failing to partner with the Federal Government in tackling insecurity. Despite Matawalle’s willingness to collaborate in combating banditry, Idris stated that the governor has neglected these efforts.

The APC emphasized that declaring a state of emergency would allow military operations to proceed without interference from the state government, ensuring the safety of Zamfara’s citizens.
