Nigerian singer Charly Boy, during an interview on the With Chude podcast, discussed his challenging relationship with his father, former Supreme Court Justice Chukwudifu Oputa. He explained that his rebellion against authority began in childhood, particularly in opposition to his father’s strict rules.

“My thing with the status quo started from the house,” Charly Boy said, expressing frustration over the household’s rigid schedule and frequent punishments. He recalled being the most punished among his siblings, as he constantly questioned his father’s commands.

Charly Boy revealed that their relationship remained strained for years, with both struggling to understand one another until they grew older. “We didn’t agree on anything, and I found out this didn’t enable me to bond with my father. He didn’t know who I was, and I didn’t know who the bloody hell he was,” he concluded.

He also spoke on The Honest Bunch Podcast in February 2024, revealing how his father’s religious background influenced his early life, pushing him towards becoming a reverend father—a path he later rejected. Charly Boy eventually disowned his parents, feeling misunderstood by them.
