The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has suspended two Shari’a court registrars, Jamilu Ibrahim and Zubairu Sulaiman, over alleged misconduct. The suspensions were announced in a statement by Baba Jibo Ibrahim, spokesperson for the Kano State Judiciary, following recommendations from an investigative committee.
During its 75th meeting on September 12, 2024, the Commission took disciplinary action against the registrars based on the committee’s findings. It was determined that Jamilu Ibrahim, along with a syndicate, received illegal funds related to a fraudulently obtained writ of possession for the sale of two plots of land. Although the committee recommended his dismissal, the Commission opted for an indefinite suspension without pay pending his trial in a Magistrate Court.
Zubairu Sulaiman, registrar of the Upper Sharia Court, was found to have received one million naira as a sales commission for the same land sale. As a result, he has been suspended for four months without pay. The Commission reiterated its commitment to enforcing appropriate sanctions against any staff member, particularly those in judicial roles, to maintain the integrity and accountability of the Judiciary and to uphold public confidence.
