The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied allegations that it is pressuring Igbo people to resign from the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. IPOB also refuted claims by the Nigerian Army that its members abducted and assaulted a soldier deployed to the South-East to spy on the Biafra movement.
The Nigerian Army’s Director of Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, had earlier alleged that a video circulated by Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed IPOB leader, depicted the torture of retired Corporal Toriola Adewale. The Army condemned the incident, attributing the assault to IPOB members.
However, IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful rejected these accusations on Wednesday, labeling them as “propaganda” and a “self-staged crime” orchestrated by the Nigerian Army’s leadership. He dismissed the video showing the alleged abduction of a soldier calling for Biafran soldiers to resign as a “false flag operation” and denied any involvement by IPOB.
