The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, is currently holding a meeting with the party’s National Assembly caucus at the PDP Legacy House in Abuja.

The meeting, convened at the BoT’s initiative, aims to address and find a resolution to the ongoing internal conflicts within the party. These issues have been persistent before, during, and after the 2023 elections.

Key points of contention include criticisms against Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum for his perceived inaction against members involved in anti-party activities, and the ongoing crisis within the Rivers State chapter of the PDP. The conflict involves Rivers State Governor Similaye Fubara and his former godfather, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who are at odds over control of the party structure in the state. Wike has threatened to disrupt PDP-controlled states if the PDP Governors Forum attempts to wrest control from him and his allies and give it to Fubara. In response, PDP Governors Forum Chairman Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has stated that such threats will not affect his state’s commitment to the party.

On Wednesday, the BoT held separate meetings with Wike and Bala Mohammed in an effort to mediate and broker peace. The ongoing meeting with the National Assembly caucus includes Senator Wabara, Senate Deputy Minority Leader Lere Oyewumi, House of Representatives Minority Whip Hon. Ali Isa JC, and Hon. Pastor Ojema Ojotu, among others.
