Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a free, fair, and credible governorship election in Edo State on September 21.

Speaking at the grand finale rally for Olumide Akpata, LP’s candidate for the Edo governorship election, Obi emphasized that the people of Edo State are determined to resist any attempts at election rigging. He promised that if elected, Akpata would address federal road issues connected to the state without waiting for federal intervention.

Obi criticized governors who shift responsibilities to the federal government, assuring that Akpata would not follow this trend. He urged Edo residents to turn out in large numbers to vote for Akpata and his running mate, Yusuf Kadiri.

Prof. Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, urged LP supporters to use their numerical strength to secure victory. He emphasized the importance of voting and defending votes, asserting that power belongs to the people.

Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, also encouraged supporters to build on past successes and replicate them on election day.

Olumide Akpata called on his supporters to use their votes to remove the People’s Democratic Party from the Edo government house.
