Conflicting reports have arisen concerning the former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, and his status with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bello’s media office initially stated that he had voluntarily complied with the EFCC’s invitation, following consultations with his family, legal team, and political allies. According to their statement, Bello, who respects the rule of law, sought to clear his name and support the administration’s anti-corruption efforts.

However, the EFCC, represented by spokesperson Dele Oyewale, denied that Bello is in their custody. Oyewale clarified that Bello remains a wanted individual due to allegations of N80.2 billion in money laundering. The EFCC’s statement emphasizes that Bello is not currently held by the commission and that a warrant for his arrest is still active.
