CONTRADICTORY REPORTS ON YAHAYA BELLO’S STATUS: EFCC DENIES ARREST

Conflicting reports have emerged about former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) denying his arrest.

Initial reports suggested that Bello was apprehended during a midnight operation by EFCC operatives in Lokoja and was being held at the commission’s Abuja headquarters. A source familiar with the matter claimed that Bello, who initially said he had voluntarily complied with the EFCC’s invitation, was pursued and arrested by the operatives.

However, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale has refuted these claims, stating that Bello is not in their custody. Oyewale clarified that Bello remains wanted for alleged money laundering charges totaling N80.2 billion and that a warrant for his arrest is still in effect.

In response to the arrest reports, Bello’s media office issued a statement confirming that the former governor had willingly responded to the EFCC’s invitation. The release from Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, stated: “Former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, today honored the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.”
