Former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has expressed deep concern over the worsening economic hardship in Nigeria and called for immediate government intervention. He made this statement during a meeting with the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights, led by Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed Jabi, at his residence in Minna, Niger State.

Abubakar lamented the severe impact of rising fuel prices, transportation costs, and increased school fees on Nigerians, emphasizing that these issues are exacerbating the economic difficulties faced by the populace. He urged the federal, state, and local governments to collaborate in addressing these challenges.

The former leader criticized the approach of providing palliatives and suggested that the government should instead focus on making food more accessible by purchasing and selling it at reduced prices. He stressed the need for comprehensive measures to alleviate the economic strain on citizens.

Abubakar also commented on the upcoming #EndBadGovernance protest, advocating for a peaceful demonstration to avoid violence and looting, which marred previous protests. He emphasized the importance of listening to demonstrators and addressing their concerns effectively.

Comrade Abdullahi Jabi, head of the delegation, echoed Abubakar’s call for urgent action and sought his support for mobilizing Nigerians to actively participate in governance and address the current economic issues.
