The eighth edition of the African Nations Championships (CHAN) will take place from February 1 to 28, 2024, across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, as announced by Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe. The biennial tournament, which features locally-based players, excludes top footballers who play in European leagues.

This marks the first time East Africa will host a continental football competition for national teams and will serve as a precursor to the three nations hosting the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Motsepe visited three Kenyan stadiums designated for the event, two of which are currently undergoing renovation. He expressed confidence in the commitment of the host nations, noting the opportunity to improve football infrastructure and boost tourism through the event.

Qualifying matches for the 19-team tournament will begin on October 25, 2024, and conclude in December. Senegal won the last CHAN edition in 2023, defeating Algeria 5-4 on penalties in the final. Morocco and DR Congo have each won the CHAN title twice since the tournament’s inception in 2009.
