NNPCL AND DANGOTE REFINERY DISAGREE OVER PETROL PRICING

< 1 mn read

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Dangote Refinery have clashed over the pricing of petrol supplied by the refinery. The disagreement arose following the first delivery of petrol to NNPCL, which was priced at N898 per litre. Dangote Refinery clarified that this price was due to the crude oil used being imported and sold at a dollar-equivalent rate.

Dangote’s Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, dismissed NNPCL’s claims as “misleading and mischievous.” He stated that the official pricing would be announced by a government-appointed committee starting October 1, 2024, which will oversee Naira-based crude sales.

In response, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, previously claimed that the product was sold to them at N898 per litre, a figure contradicted by earlier reports of N766 per litre.

Further complicating matters, the fuel shortage in Nigeria may continue due to a shortfall in petrol supply from the Dangote Refinery. The refinery was expected to deliver 25 million litres but managed only 16.8 million litres, signaling potential delays in stabilizing fuel availability across the country.

Despite this, Dangote reassured Nigerians that quality petroleum products would soon be available nationwide, aiming to end the longstanding fuel scarcity.
