The federal government has intensified its efforts to increase the conversion of vehicles from petrol and diesel to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), supplying 1,200 conversion kits to five states. Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi, Director/CEO of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, disclosed this in Abuja, stating the goal of reducing dependence on costly petrol and diesel, which costs Nigeria $6 to $8 billion annually in subsidies.

Oluwagbemi outlined the target to have 18,000 vehicles running on CNG by the end of the year, with an additional 250,000 conversion kits expected by the first quarter of 2025. Currently, Nigeria has over 130 conversion centers, with plans to increase that number to 250 by the year’s end.
