The Association of Telephone, Cable TV, and Internet Subscribers of Nigeria (ATCIS) has backed the decision of telecommunications operators to disconnect subscribers who failed to link their SIM cards to their National Identification Numbers (NINs) by the September 14, 2024, deadline.

ATCIS National President, Mr. Sina Bilesanmi, emphasized the importance of adhering to the NIN-SIM linkage policy, which aims to enhance security and improve digital governance. He praised the government for its extensions and understanding but stressed the need for strict enforcement to achieve the policy’s goals.

Bilesanmi called on those who have not yet complied to act immediately and suggested that the government consider a grace period for those facing genuine difficulties, such as the elderly and residents of remote areas.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has confirmed that no further extensions will be granted beyond the deadline. Subscribers who have not completed the NIN-SIM linkage or are facing verification issues are advised to visit their service providers to avoid disconnection.

With over 66 million mobile lines still unlinked to NINs, the policy will now be strictly enforced. The NCC has warned that non-compliant subscribers should prepare for disconnection as the government is committed to fully implementing the NIN-SIM linkage policy for national security and effective digital governance.
