Kano State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Ibrahim Jibril, has requested the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to assist the state in addressing the drug menace.

Jibril made this appeal in Kano on Monday during a meeting with the state Commandant of NDLEA, Mr. Abubakar Ahmad. He urged the NDLEA to establish a unit within the Audu Bako Secretariat complex to combat drug peddling and abuse.

Jibril emphasized the urgent need for NDLEA’s presence, stating, “The issue of drug abuse among youths in Kano is alarming. We need NDLEA’s presence to mitigate security challenges.”

He also outlined the state government’s efforts to address drug-related issues, including the reactivation of 21 skill institutes to provide productive engagement for youths.

Earlier, Ahmad commended the state governor for his dedication to tackling drug abuse, citing the governor’s visit to the Kiru reformatory. Ahmad also expressed appreciation for the state government’s support in completing and equipping the previously abandoned Drug Rehabilitation Centre at the NDLEA Command headquarters.

He affirmed that this collaboration would be instrumental in addressing drug abuse and its impacts in Kano State.
