Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa has called on Oando Energy Resources Nigeria Limited to take responsibility for the liabilities associated with its recent acquisition of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC).

Governor’s Request During Courtesy Visit
Diri made this appeal on Friday during a courtesy visit by Oando Energy’s management team in Yenagoa. He emphasized that accepting these liabilities would help improve the strained relationship between NAOC and its host communities.

Key Issues Raised by the Governor
Governor Diri urged Oando to address several critical issues, including employment opportunities, contractual benefits, job security, and environmental concerns. He highlighted the importance of multinational companies fulfilling their corporate social responsibilities to foster harmonious relationships with local communities.

Employment and Contractual Obligations
The governor also stressed the need for local indigenes to be considered for both lower and managerial positions within the company. He encouraged Oando to use this acquisition as an opportunity to rectify past grievances related to employment and other contractual obligations.

Governor’s Support and Oando’s Commitment
Governor Diri assured Oando of the state government’s support, noting the potential benefits of peaceful oil operations for both parties. Oando’s Managing Director, Ainojie Irune, acknowledged the visit as a chance to introduce the new management team and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to a mutually beneficial partnership with the Bayelsa government and its communities.

Irune expressed optimism for a fresh start and hoped for a strong working relationship moving forward.
