NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE DECLARES 281 INMATES MISSING AFTER FLOOD

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced that 281 inmates are missing following a recent evacuation to a safe facility, supported by other security agencies.

NCoS ISSUES STATEMENT ON MISSING INMATES

In a statement on Sunday, Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO) Abubakar Umar revealed that seven inmates have been recaptured. He confirmed that the NCoS has detailed information and biometrics of the missing inmates.

FLOOD DAMAGES CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES IN MAIDUGURI

The flood caused significant damage to the Medium Security Custodial Centre Maiduguri (MSCC) and surrounding staff quarters. The flood’s impact led to the evacuation of inmates, during which 281 were reported missing.

NCoS AND SECURITY AGENCIES WORK TO RECAPTURE ESCAPED INMATES

The NCoS is collaborating with other security agencies to locate and recapture the missing inmates. Both covert and overt operations have been initiated to track down the escaped individuals.

PUBLIC SAFETY REMAINS A PRIORITY DESPITE INCIDENT

Umar assured the public that despite the incident, public safety is not compromised, and efforts are ongoing to ensure all missing inmates are returned to custody.
