Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has approved more than ₦340 million for the restoration of electricity at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYUK) in Katsina. This announcement was made in a statement issued by Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar’adua, Director Press, Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), on Saturday.

The funds have been allocated for two critical electricity projects at the university. The first project involves replacing a 33KVA indoor control panel and other accessories, costing over ₦260 million. The second project is the installation of solar security lights, awarded at a cost of more than ₦98 million.

Aliyu-Yar’adua emphasized that these measures aim to address the issues of vandalism and insecurity at the university. The swift approval by Governor Radda is in response to the power outage that has affected the learning environment at UMYUK.

Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari, the SSG, further stated that the governor is committed to restoring a conducive learning atmosphere at the university. Radda also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the university management and the patience shown by staff and students during the power outage.

The power outage led the university’s management to extend its mid-semester break as repairs continued. The institution’s senate has postponed resumption until the electricity issue is fully resolved, according to a statement by Muhammad Yusufu-Abubakar, Registrar and Secretary to the university’s senate.
