The Falconets of Nigeria have been eliminated from the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia following a 2-1 defeat to Japan. Despite a late goal by Olushola Sobowale, the Danjuma-led team couldn’t overcome the Japanese side.

Japan took the lead in a first half that saw few opportunities, with Miyu Matsunaga scoring in the 33rd minute after a well-placed pass from Rihona Ujihara. In the second half, Japan continued to dominate, adding a second goal through Maya Hijjikati in the 63rd minute.

Although Nigeria made efforts to equalize, including Sobowale’s goal from a cross by Goodness Osigwe, it was too late to change the outcome. Japan secured the win, marking another disappointing end for the Falconets, who have not progressed past this stage since their final loss to Germany in 2014.
