NUPENG ADDRESSES IMPACT OF ECONOMIC DOWNTURN ON WORKERS AT LAWAN WORKSHOP

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has highlighted the profound impact of the ongoing economic downturn on various sectors, emphasizing that workers have been disproportionately affected by these hardships.

During a workshop themed “Challenges of the Nation’s Economic Downturn: Survival Options for Workers,” organized by the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN) in Lagos, Prince Williams Akporeha, NUPENG President, acknowledged the Union’s efforts to alleviate the adverse effects of the economic crisis on its members. Represented by Suleiman Pema, a senior officer in Research & Public Affairs, Akporeha praised LAWAN for its dedication to advocating for workers’ rights, fair wages, safe working conditions, and empowerment.

Akporeha commended LAWAN for its unwavering support and diligent reporting, which has brought critical issues affecting the labor force to the forefront, ensuring that workers’ voices are heard and their challenges addressed.

He expressed gratitude for LAWAN’s commitment to the working class, stating, “Your role in highlighting the struggles and triumphs of the labor force is invaluable. Through your insightful analysis and reporting, you have continuously spotlighted the issues that matter most to our workers.”

The NUPENG President acknowledged the widespread impact of the economic downturn on all sectors and stressed the resilience of Nigerian workers. He noted that despite the challenges, workers have shown remarkable adaptability and perseverance.

NUPENG remains committed to supporting its members and all Nigerian workers by exploring and implementing strategies to mitigate the economic impact. The Union is focused on advocating for fair wages, ensuring safe working conditions, and providing training and development opportunities to help workers thrive.

Akporeha concluded by extending heartfelt thanks to LAWAN for organizing the workshop and for its ongoing partnership in advocating for better working conditions. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and solidarity to navigate the current challenges and secure a brighter future for Nigerian workers.
